​John Finucane

Clarinettist John Finucane, Principal Clarinet of Ireland’s RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra since 1995, is celebrated as a soloist, chamber musician, and conductor. Praised by Gramophone magazine as “an outstanding virtuoso,” his CD Clarinet Variations highlights his exceptional artistry. He has performed with the Ysaye, Navarra, and Vanbrugh Quartets, as well as ensembles like the Irish Chamber Orchestra and Ulysses Ensemble.

An accomplished conductor, John has led the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, and Opera Theatre Company. He has been Musical Director of the Hibernian Orchestra for nearly 30 years and co-founded the Dublin Chamber Orchestra. His international tours have included performances in China and appearances on RTÉ and Britain’s The South Bank Show.

John has conducted music for films, including Storm in the Stars and John Boorman’s In My Country. A D’Addario Woodwinds Performing Artist, he balances his active performing career with teaching at the Royal Irish Academy of Music.
